The Tadabbur method

The Qur’an is read through the Qur’an

Tadabbur is an independent intellectual project that reads the Qur’an from within: through context, the links between verses, and the study of Qur’anic words and concepts, before relying on inherited interpretations and readings.

We begin with the text and ask: what does the Qur’an say about a subject when its verses are read together?

References

We draw on works of exegesis, language, history, and academic and scientific studies, along with other relevant sources — while always distinguishing the Qur’anic text from the human source.

References are not a substitute for the Qur’an; they are tools for comparison, verification, and understanding the history of ideas and of differing readings.

Narration and tradition

We distinguish the Qur’an from human narrations and interpretations.

A narration does not become Qur’an merely by being handed down, and interpretation remains a human reading open to research and discussion.

Hypothesis and conclusion

We clearly separate what the text says, what we infer from it, and what we put forward as a hypothesis.

A personal reading is therefore never presented as a final truth; it is stated openly so the reader can review the text and the references and form their own view.

Research method

We do not begin with a conclusion and then look for a verse to support it.
